Volunteer Opportunities at the Western Kentucky Botanical Garden
The Western Kentucky Botanical Garden has many opportunities for you to volunteer. Your time and talents would be greatly appreciated. Below are some of the ways you can get involved:
Volunteer Days: 8:00 am – 12:00 Noon. Every first Saturday and the third Wednesday of each month beginning March through October. Please refer to the calendar for specific dates.
During Volunteer Days work is usually done in specific gardens such as weeding, fertilizing, mulching, spraying, replanting, and getting beds ready for the next season.
Garden Greeter: Anytime between 9:00 am – 3:00 pm Monday through Friday.
Garden greeters are our voice for the Garden and perform such functions as answering the phone, greeting visitors, preparing mailings, and assisting the Executive Director.
Adopt-a-Spot: Any designated garden or specific area of the Garden.
Those individuals or organizations that adopt a spot maintain their area of the Garden throughout the year. To keep an area looking good, this usually requires at least twice a month maintenance and sometimes once a week.
Catering Help: As needed. The Botanical Garden caters events at the Garden and always needs help.
Catering help usually assists in setting up tables & chairs, decorations, etc., preparation of the food and beverages, serving, and cleaning up.
Program/event assistance: As needed. The Botanical Garden has many educational programs and scheduled events (Annual plant sale, Daylily Festival & Scarecrow Festival) throughout the year.
Instructors who have knowledge of specific fauna and flora are encouraged to volunteer time to support our educational programs. Also, extra help is always needed in preparing for a major weekend event.
